What is Ocimene?
Ocimene gets its name from the Greek word for basil, Ocimum. Cis-Beta-ocimene is part of a larger group of isomeric hydrocarbons called ocimenes. Beta-ocimene has two stereoisomeric forms, cis and trans. For this blog post, we will be focusing on cis-beta-ocimene which is abundant in basil, pepper, and kumquats. Ocimene has a sweet, woody aroma with a colorless, liquid consistency.
